How Rule 9 Got its name
The origin of our club name is an
interesting story. The first meeting in Rule 9 history took place at the Big
Bethel branch of the Hampton public library system in February 1998. The meeting
consisted of fellow bass fisherman that Ronnie and I already knew in addition to
angler’s who responded to ads that we put in the Virginian Pilot and Daily Press
newspapers. Ronnie and I decided that the meeting would flow better if we
already had a set of rules put together to use as a starting point and refine
them from there. Well, it just so happened that Rule # 9 was a catchall that
said “Any new business / issues will be decided by a club vote at a club meeting
by the members who are present”. As the meeting progressed and we discussed
various issues pertaining to our club rules, we got off track on occasion with
potential members bringing up "off the wall" scenarios that could occur and each
time that happened, one of our charter members said, "refer to Rule # 9". Well,
when we got to the point in the meeting to decide on a name for this newly
formed bass club, we were all discussing some possible names that were on the
floor such as, Hawg Hunters and Rip-N-Lips and someone shouted out “Why don’t we
call it Rule 9 Bass Club” and it was agreed upon by all present so, that’s how
we got our name. If you would like to become a member of Rule 9 Bass Club,
